Hello! I’m MJ Russell, a studio artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. I work in a variety of media, both 2D and 3D. Welcome to my website, which is currently “under construction” as I update it with my artwork.

What Am I Up To? – January 2026

Hello all! I hope to update this little blurb monthly to provide a look into what I’ve been up in my art career. This month I am working on a series of tapestry weavings centered around the American bison. I started this project in October 2025, I’m picking it back up and I hope to finish it soon! I’ve finished one weaving and plan to create a total of 3-5 weavings, which will then be displayed hanging from some foraged branches. All of the yarn used is natural – I prefer natural yarns over synthetic because my works are so connected to nature. Look forward to seeing full images of these weavings within the next month or two! – MJ
