Hello!

Madison “MJ” Russell is an emerging artist currently living in North Carolina, USA. They work in a variety of media including ceramics, collage, assemblage, printmaking, fibers, and more. They graduated in May 2025 from Meredith College (Raleigh, NC) with a BA in Studio Art.

MJ is highly influenced by the natural world and often emphasizes the connection between nature and humankind. Their work reflects on who they are, what they are interested in, and how they understand the world. Common subjects include analysis of human psychology, animal zoology, personal experiences, and highlighting the beauty of nature. Birds, insects, and reptiles often appear in their work, as do fantastical creatures. 

Russell’s work has been featured in Meredith College’s 39th, 40th, and 41st Annual Juried Student Art Exhibitions, as well as Meredith College’s publication The Colton Review (2024 and 2025 volumes). Their most recent participation was the “Echoes of Self” senior capstone exhibition at Meredith College, which was on view in April 2025 at the Frankie G. Weems Gallery.
