This series are known as “monotypes.” These types of prints are unique and cannot be exactly replicated, unlike other types of printing which produce the same result every time. The processes I used to create this series are:
Direct – painting ink directly onto the plate with brushes
Indirect – placing paper on a plate covered in ink, then drawing your design onto the paper so that it picks up the ink
Subtractive – covering the entire plate in ink, then removing it in various ways
Gelli plate – uses a unique “plate” that is made of a gelatin-like material, great for creating textures with minimal effort
